Hi Walter, NQ for just now and they are looking at HNC, but I have expressed they can only do this if they spend money on equipment and classroom computers. I've just finished writing the 1st year recording module for UWS and they are really…

Lori - thanks for clarification that you are not operating in the new college building. As to developing new courses - the lead college for this is usually Stow, with whom you have worked in the past. At what level are you being asked to develop…

Lori - unsure whether a previous request reached you, but here goes again. On Mon 18th May I have a visiting teacher from Queensland Aus who wants to hear about good practice and innovation in Scottish education. Would be good if we could meet up with you anytime that afternoon to hear your story. Any chance of you being available? Walter Patterson 07984398770

Looks like giving staff a brand new college has not changed their ways (just read HMIE reports!). The college has always been weak on its quality systems - so your story may not be unique (unfortunately!).

Darren,

The virtual classroom is a video link between 2 schools one at your end linking to a Scottish school. It can be any subject, just have to select teachers for example the last link I did was a History Lesson from Scottish Teacher and pupils with an English class in NY.
The two Teachers emailed each other discussing lesson plan, The Scottish Teacher taught both class pupils then both sets of pupils had a 10 minute discussion.
The next lesson which was 4 weeks later was taught by the American Teacher. The lessons were time linked NY time was 9.30 am and we were 3.30 pm. Both Teachers enjoyed the experience and the pupils loved the open discussions.
I was working with 12 to 13 year olds. Due to the School in NY being a Mid School.
I would organise a High School in Scotland to link with you.
If you don't have Video Conference equipment I'm sure I could speak with my business contact.
In Scotland we also use a system called Marratech this allows the master class whatever the subject to be viewed by as many as 120 schools. The teacher would log in to Marratech and can ask questions to the Master Class Teacher. These are fantastic lessons.
I have been part of the technical team for the last 3 Marratech lessons.
You can also type in a question and this would be read out to the Master class Teacher.
What subject do you Teach? And what school are you based at?
I am hoping to be over in NY around October.
For once we have the sun shining on Scotland, going out to bask in the sun before my children come home from school.
Regards

Lori

Am in touch with a number of stateside hospital schools and would be interested in your contcts in NY. Time difference can be a bit of a pain but asynchronous video messages can also work well.
Would be good to arrange a meet. Do you have any time for a f2f or virtual get together? I'll send you m Skype details via email.

Glad to her the weather in Scotland is nice and sunny 'cos here in London it is c***!

Speak soon.
