Apparently this is my box... So I am going to put some stuff in it!
I work in a large 14 to 18 comprehensive school in Dorset, 2300 students on roll and 930 in the sixth form. We have the pleasure of being the largest sixth form in a school in the country.
I am one of the co-creators of Films for learning http://www.filmsforlearning.org which was recently cited in an innovation award to our school from the SSAT.
Films for Learning is a project that was originally designed to encourage students and teachers to work in a cooperative manner to produce video resources that explain a difficult, dangerous or tricky point. Though the areas being filmed now include all areas of the curriculum. We have developed a teaching and learning model that sees the teacher assume the role of 'Client' and the students the role of 'Developers'. It is learning by stealth that sees students and teachers grow in confidence with video technology.
Along with my co-creator Mark Richardson we have taken over staff development days and meetings and introduced digital film making to teachers. By the use of subversive film making we have changed the culture of our school in to one where Digital Video and Digital Film Making can be used as both a lesson aid and as a learning method.
Our project goes from strength to strength. We have nearly 300 lesson resources available for use by anyone. The site is free, moderated, and free of adverts. We are not You-Tube... We discourage the use of copyrighted material and positively encourage innovation and originality. It is so easy to make your own sound effects, music, photos, and digital video we think we should be encouraging students to be creative.
There are more than a dozen prize winning films on the site... Go and have a look at the Theatre and the Community behind it and then tell me what you think.
Thanks
Peter
